Athlete of the Month:

Skill Level Teams for Youth Fencers!
Demonstrate your skill level and knowledge of fencing by participating in the Skill Level team program.  There are three teams: Bronze, Silver and Gold.  Your entrance into the team depends upon you meeting the requirements outlined below. 

Bronze Team
   1) Be able to identify the parts of a fencing weapon and the target area.
   2) Identify the meaning of Yellow, Red and Black Cards.
   3) Participate in a minimum of two Swashbuckler (or similar events). 
   4) Attend practice at the SAFC for a minimum of once a week for 6 weeks. 
   5) Be able to demonstrate the following: Lunge, Advance Lunge, Parry 4 with riposte, Parry 6
       and Circle 6 with riposte, Counter riposte, In-direct attack,  Beat attack  and Disengage.

Silver Team 

  Satisfy the requirements of the Bronze Team and..
   1) Attend practice at the SAFC for a minimum of twice a week for 6 weeks. 
   2) Must be a member of the USFA. Participate in a minimum of three Swashbuckler (or similar
       events)  and two Regional Youth events.
   3) Be able to identify basic penalty and rule scenarios.
   4) Be able to demonstrate the following: Jump Lunge, Coupe attack, Parry 8 with riposte,
       Parry 7 with riposte,  Counter riposte with disengage 
   5) Use of reconnaissance actions to determine a strategy.


Gold Team
Satisfy the membership of Silver Team and… 
   1) Compete in a minimum of four Swashbuckler (or similar events), two Regional Youth, two
        Super  YC (or Natioanal level events).
   2) Must be able to demonstrate the ability to direct, calling proper actions and using hand  
        signals. 
   3) Must be able to demonstrate the ability to respond to coaching cues in an individual lesson.
   4) Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in leading other fencers in warm-ups and/or drills.
